Background Investigations
Information is easy to find. Knowing what is accurate, relevant, and missing requires investigation.
Westbrook Investigations & Consulting conducts comprehensive background investigations for law firms, businesses, organizations, executives, and private clients who require more than an automated database search. We identify, verify, and analyze information from multiple sources to help clients make informed, defensible decisions.

Beyond a Basic Background Check
A database search can identify potential records. A background investigation goes further by verifying information, identifying inconsistencies, developing additional sources, and evaluating findings in context. When warranted, our investigators conduct additional public-record research and investigative follow-up to resolve discrepancies and develop information that may not appear in a standard background report.
Pre-Employment & Public Safety Background Investigations
Westbrook Investigations & Consulting conducts comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for police departments, public-safety agencies, schools, and other organizations where integrity, judgment, reliability, and suitability are critical to the hiring process.
Our investigations can extend well beyond database and records checks. Depending on the agency’s requirements and the position being filled, investigators may verify employment, education, residences, credentials, criminal and civil history, and other relevant information; review social media and open-source information; interview references, former employers, neighbors, and other developed contacts; and investigate discrepancies or concerns identified during the candidate’s background investigation.
Findings are documented in a comprehensive investigative report provided to the hiring agency for its review and determination.
Our Investigative Approach
Each background investigation begins with the purpose of the inquiry. We identify the information necessary to address the client’s concerns, research appropriate records and sources, verify material findings when possible, and pursue discrepancies or investigative leads that warrant further inquiry. Findings are documented and reported based on the information developed during the investigation.
When a Background Investigation Makes Sense
A comprehensive background investigation may be appropriate when:
Evaluating a potential business partner or key executive
Conducting due diligence before a significant business transaction
Supporting litigation or another legal matter
Investigating suspected fraud or undisclosed conflicts
Verifying information provided by an individual or organization
Assessing concerns involving a person in a position of trust
A basic database search leaves important questions unanswered
